Popakademie bands live on stage!

At the "Work in Progress Club" the students of the Department of Popular Music present their current projects.

The Popakademie opens the series with the popular Belarusian indie pop band NaviBand, who took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017. Known for their gripping songs and tireless commitment to political freedom, the musicians are among the ultimate romantic voices of the Belarusian music scene. After being expelled from their home country for their support of the political protests in 2020 following the contested presidential election, they are now touring Europe. With their concerts in Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany and other countries, they are sending a powerful message to the victims of the war in Ukraine and the brutal repression of protesters in Belarus.

On 13.05.2025 the final concert of Pop macht Schule will take place at the Capitol in Mannheim.

Celebrate with us the conclusion of this year's round of the “Pop macht Schule” support program. This spring, around 400 pupils were able to gain experience and know-how in the wide-ranging field of pop and world music over two workshop days. This included singing, writing lyrics, trying out different instruments, making their own beats and writing their own songs. Be there when the students present their results to a large audience at the final concert. Popakademie students will also perform with their bands.

On Saturday, May 24th 2025, the final of SONGS, the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg's songwriting competition for students, will take place. At the final concert of the tenth round of SONGS, selected participants will present their submitted songs live in front of a jury of experts. Two special guests will perform at the SpardaWelt Eventcenter in Stuttgart to mark the 10th anniversary of the competition. The “SONGS” competition is sponsored by the Stiftung Bildung und Soziales der Sparda-Bank Baden-Württemberg.

On May 27th 2025, SOFFIE and Marlo Grosshardt will discuss the topic of taking a stand as an artist. Pop academic and Berlin musician Soffie conquers stages with a unique mix of fat beats and even fatter vocals. With her provocative way of living the world in “fortissimo”, she immerses the audience in an emotionally energetic atmosphere. Her lyrics are profound, but at the same time a call to experience the world with all its facets.
The Hamburg musician Marlo Grosshardt inspires the audience with his debut album “Ein letztes Liebeslied”. In his critical yet rousing songs, he addresses the contradictions of the modern world and shows himself to be a courageous artist who is not afraid to address political and social issues. After a successful tour and numerous sold-out shows, Marlo has already achieved over 3.5 million streams on Spotify with his second album “Mut” and has inspired fans with songs such as “Astronaut”, which achieved great viral success on social media. He is part of the 26th generation of the Bandpool (top support program of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg).

Beats & Sound of the producing students! The line-up of the Producer's Club consists of students from the Pop Music Design bachelor's programme and the Popular Music master's programme with a focus on Producing/Composing Artist.

On June 17th 2025, director and filmmaker Johannes Blume will present his award-winning documentary “Berlin Utopiekadaver”. The film, which was nominated for Best Documentary at the Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival and won the prize for “Best Music in a Documentary”, deals with the utopias and dystopias of modern society. Johannes Blume, who is known for his experimental works, takes the audience on a cinematic journey through the cultural and social realities of Berlin.

Before the summer break after an eventful semester, there will be one more week of live music at the Popakademie from 21-24.07.2025.
From Monday morning to Thursday evening, Popakademie students will be taking their live exams. All open to the public with free admission!

Experience the best Popakademie bands and solo artists from the current study programs live at the big end-of-semester concert on July 25th 2025.
Bands and musicians from the Popakademie will be live on stage that evening to present a diverse mix of music from all genres.

Come by the final concert of the International Summer Camp.

Band rehearsals, creative songwriting and music production are the focus of the summer course. There are also topic-relevant master classes, workshops and specials. Individual and group lessons in singing, songwriting, music production and various instruments complete the program. At the end of the week, all participants will present their results at a public final concert in the Popakademie.

The International Summer Camp takes place in cooperation with the Mannheim Cultural Office and with the kind support of the Wilhelm Müller Foundation.
