"Women Create Music" creates support structures for female musicians

17. December 2025

Women Create Music is a new initiative that opens up innovative and sustainable avenues of support for female musicians. The project combines professional creative work with immediate presentation and development opportunities, setting new standards for gender equality, visibility, and structural support in the music industry. The two-phase launch will take place on March 7th and 8th 2026, in Mannheim and on October 24 and 25, 2026, in Ludwigshafen.

The initiative is being implemented in close cooperation with strong partners, including Rosengarten / m:con, BASF Kultur, Mannheimer I'M SOUND Versicherung, and the renowned Popakademie. This alliance brings together cultural institutions, educational establishments, regional funding organizations, and the music industry in a way that is rarely achieved in Germany. Given the current challenging conditions in the cultural sector, this collaboration is a clear signal of commitment, responsibility, and future orientation.

Women Create Music responds to structural barriers that have been known and unchanged for years: women continue to be severely underrepresented in key roles in the music industry—in songwriting, producing, engineering, on stage, and in chart structures. Access to professional studios, mentoring, networks, and decision-makers is too often limited. This is where the initiative comes in, creating spaces where creative work, visibility, and professional development intersect.

The schedule for both weekends follows a clear concept:
On the first day, selected participants work on new songs in five professionally equipped studios. Places are advertised publicly; the application phase begins next week. The teams are accompanied by experienced producers, songwriters, and industry experts. The aim is to combine artistic work with professional development. The strongest song from each camp will receive a release campaign – a central component of the support approach.

The second day is dedicated to a convention that combines panels, workshops, masterclasses, A&R sessions, and open networking formats. Here, the artists meet decision-makers and leading voices in the music industry – from labels, publishers, management companies, production companies, and cultural institutions. Another component is the Talent Stage, for which you can apply separately. The most outstanding performance will be invited to the German Songwriting Awards – a direct bridge to a relevant industry format.

With this 360-degree approach, Women Create Music is creating a development path that combines creative work, public visibility, and concrete career options. The long-term perspective is crucial: the initiative does not see itself as a one-off project, but as a growing building block of a more equal and diverse music landscape.

“Women Create Music is not intended as a one-off initiative, but as a long-term structure for artistic development and equal opportunities. The fact that we are able to implement this together with strong partners shows how great the will is to take joint responsibility for a diverse music landscape.”
– Nadja Kuppel, We Create Music

The application phases for the songwriting studios and the Talent Stage will open next week.
