Sunday Beats in Herzogenriedpark: Popakademie acts live on stage

17. June 2025

Since 2019, the Sunday Beats concert series has transformed Herzogenriedpark in Mannheim into a stage for musicians from the Popakademie on selected Sundays. Initiated by the artist agency KLINKT, the series offers young talents a platform to present their musical projects to a wide audience. The 7th edition of the joint concert series by Stadtpark Mannheim gGmbH and the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg is also part of the celebrations for this year's “50 Years of Mannheim City Park” anniversary.

Sunday, June 22: Feelgood vibes in folk guise with Timbreroots
Sunday Beats 2025 kicks off on Sunday, June 22 with Timbreroots. The band will delight fans of Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers with their mix of polyphonic vocals, indie folk, alternative rock and Brit-pop elements, creating a rousing musical experience. Frontman Benedikt Sanoll, who is studying for a Master of Arts in Popular Music, shapes the sound with his expressive voice and will be accompanied on June 22 by the two Popakademie students Jakub Klosowski on bass and Luis Emmerling on drums.

Sunday, July 20: Ruhrpott Meets Bosporus with Emre Yeşil
Emre Yeşil, who is currently studying for a Master of Arts Popular Music at the Popakademie, is an up-and-coming German-Turkish indie pop singer who bridges the gap between two worlds with his unique blend of modern pop melodies and cultural influences from Turkey. At the concert on July 20, he will be accompanied by Popakademie students Jakob Koch (keyboard), Felix Birzele (guitar), Joshua Mandlburger (bass) and Jordi Doben (Drums).

Sunday, August 17: Rough, emotional, poetic with yara
yara know exactly what they stand for: energetic indie rock, infused with sharp-tongued, poetic lyrics and an irrepressible desire to experiment. They show their full power live in particular: with a theatrical presence and a keen sense for the audience, they transform concerts into intense experiences - as they will do on August 17. The musicians of yara are managed by the three Music and Creative Industries students Julius Scheuermann, Lilli Fink and Vivienne Karthäuser.

Sunday, September 21: Danceable beats & bittersweet lyrics with Naomi Westlake
Feeling the bass in your veins and questioning the world at the same time is a match in the music of Naomi Westlake, who is also a Master of Arts Popular Music student. Her live set is as rich in contrast as her music. Her energy on stage is carried by strobe lights and techno dance moves, and at the same time she can silence an entire hall with her quieter songs. We are looking forward to September 21.

The concerts take place at 3 pm in the concert shell in Herzogenriedpark. Admission to the concerts is free; there is only a park entrance fee of €4 for adults and €3 for students.
