26. November 2024
Prof. Dr. Alexander Endreß, Head of the Music Business B.A. department, and Prof. Dr. Ralf Kitzberger, LL.M., are jointly publishing the book “Music and Law” with Nomos Verlag. The book is part of the publication series “Music and Business” from the “Music Business” department of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg.
“The idea for this book arose from the need to bring clarity to the complex structures of music law,” says Ralf Kitzberger, and continues: ”Music has long been monetized not only through its creative creation, but also through the multitude of legal and economic interfaces.” The anthology “Music and Law” therefore deals with legally relevant aspects in the music industry context. This includes the explanation and explanation of the basics of copyright and ancillary copyright law as well as the various types of contracts in the different areas of commercial exploitation. In addition, topics relating to setting up and securing a business are covered. “The ‘Music and Business’ series complements our mission as a university to improve the practice. It supports professional exchange and makes complex music industry contexts transparent,” says Alexander Endreß.
The book was created in cooperation with experienced and professionally recognized practitioners as authors. It is aimed at various interested groups of people, such as students in the field of music and creative industries, music business professionals, artists and researchers in the wider field of music and cultural studies. In addition to the contributions of the two editors, the book contains essays by Prof. Dr. Hanno Fierdag, Michael Herberger, Dr. Bianca Müller, Peter Beutel, Janina Bäßler, Wolfgang Riegger, Dr. Hajo Rupp, Dr. Kolja Spohn, Dr. Johannes Ulbricht and Prof. Asterix Westphal.
